Bob Riseling’s Bio:
I am a freelance photographer working out of my home in Effingham, Il. I began developing a strong interest in photography my senior year in high school. I was the school photographer for two years while attending John A. Logan College in Carterville Il. Upon graduation I then transfered to Southern Illinois University – Carbondale where I majored in photography. While going to school at SIU I worked as a photojournalist for the Southern Illinoisian regional newspaper. Upon getting married in 1974 the need to obtain secure employment took precedence over my photographic pursuits. My goal was to be able to retire early and return to my photographic interest. Being fortunate enough to retire in 2007 I have been able to revive my passion with photography. In March of 2008 I made the transformation from the film medium to the world of Digital photography. Working in the digital format has allowed me to approach my photography on an intuitive level that I could not have achieved with traditional film and darkroom techniques. I find that there are a seemingly endless number of ways to work with my images in the digital world. This technology has allowed me to challenge long held ideas and approach my subject matter in a much less restrained manner. As a photographer I mainly photograph common objects that we see everyday. I then manipulate these images into varying degrees of abstraction, presenting depictions of real objects in thought provoking ways. My hope is to engage the viewer, pique their curiosity and get them involved in my photographs. My wife Vicki and I are active members of the Effingham Art Guild. We would really encourage others to join this group of highly talented individuals.
